Volunteers Make The Difference
Volunteers have dedicated thousands of hours to habitat restoration, fundraising and environmental education since the Preserve was founded. We greatly appreciate your interest in volunteering here.
Due to the large number of volunteer requests we receive, all volunteers must register and schedule their visits in advance.
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to volunteer; for those under the age of 18, please refer to the age requirements listed below
If your school, scout troop, employer, or church would like to participate in a group volunteer project, complete the registration form below and our Outreach Coordinator will contact you to schedule a date for your group's visit(s). Be sure to check our Events Calendar for available dates/times.
Once you have registered and completed an orientation, schedule all subsequent visits online below.
Available dates/times are as follows:
- Mondays 8 am - Noon *
- Saturdays 8 am - Noon *
* When volunteering on Mondays or Saturdays, please meet on the porch of the Education Center no later than 7:45 am, and plan to stay until noon.
You can also volunteer to work during an upcoming event. We need several volunteers to assist with our annual Heritage Festival, our largest fundraising event of the year held in late October.

What to Bring
- A refillable water bottle
- Food or snacks for energy
- Gloves and a hat
What to Wear
- Apply sunscreen and insect repellent before arriving
- Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes that can get dirty
- Wear a hat and pants for sun and leg protection
Do Not Bring
- Leave your cell phone at home or in a bag or purse, which can be left in our office during your visit
- iPods or other devices, which can get lost or dirty and cause distractions
- Young children or infants that are unable or not scheduled to participate
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities & Holidays
High school aged volunteers (14-17 yrs) are welcome with parental consent.
Middle school age volunteers (11-13 yo) are welcome with a parent (one parent/guardian - working as a volunteer - for each 2 children volunteering).
Elementary school age volunteers (8-10 yo) are welcome with a parent (one parent/guardian - working as volunteer - for each child volunteering).
Children under the age of 8 are permitted only with direct parental involvement and prior approval of our Outreach Coordinator.
ACS and other court-ordered Community Service Volunteers are not permitted to bring children to the Preserve while completing service hours, no exceptions.
If you plan to volunteer at the Preserve for summer camp or as a tour guide, museum docent or greeter, we require a background screening through Orange County Public School's Volunteer ADDitions. Details available here.

Our Volunteer Coordinator is part-time and checks emails Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, so if you email on Saturday you may not receive a reply until Wednesday. If you need an immediate reply, please call the office.
