Kathy Hale with her grandson at the Oakland Heritage Festival, October 2015
We were extremely saddened to learn that Oakland Nature Preserve Board Member, Kathleen Hale passed away on December 14th 2016, at the age 68. Kathy, as she was fondly known, devoted much of her time, energy and skills to environmental issues in the Central Florida area.
Kathy advised and assisted with environmental permitting and wildlife monitoring at Oakland Nature Preserve. She was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about Gopher Tortoises, and led our Gopher Tortoise Surveys. She served on multiple committees at Oakland Nature Preserve; most notably she was a pivotal member of the finance committee for several years. She became a Board of Director in 2011.
Kathy played a key role in the restoration and preservation of sandhill habitat at Oakland Nature Preserve, all the while educating and inspiring others.
Kathy Hale will be missed by the staff, volunteers, and board of directors, who were fortunate enough to know and work with her.
