Become a Guide, Docent or Greeter

Become a part of our growing tours and programs, while giving back to the community!  Volunteer Guides are trained to give guided tours and hikes to visitors at the Preserve, while Docents and Greeters are trained to greet Museum visitors.

Monday through Friday, 10 am - 4 pm

Who's Eligible

  • Local residents who are at least 18 years of age (or have valid Florida driver's license with signed parental consent)
  • With reliable transportation
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Comfortable standing or walking for several hours 
  • Desire to learn about Florida’s ecosystems, plants, animals and the history of the Preserve
  • Desire to become proficient in material

What's Required

  • A 3 to 6-month commitment of 2 Saturdays each month for 2 to 4 hours per day
  • At least 2-weeks’ notice before leaving the program
  • Comfortable and weather-appropriate attire with close-toed shoes
  • Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, water and food.
  • Neat, clean and presentable appearance with no heavy perfumes.

  • Trainees are asked to study our training manual
  • Attend a supplementary classroom lecture
  • Complete a written quiz
  • Complete a mock tour
