Blue Hike Paddle Tour Venue Change to Lake Norris/Blackwater Creek

Blue Hike Paddle Tour

Join Oakland Nature Preserve President, Jim Peterson, for a guided tour of Lake Norris, via the Blackwater Creek.

*** Please note the venue change as of 1/24, we expect north winds on Saturday, so will be paddling Lake Norris/Blackwater creek instead!).

We will meet at the Lake Norris Conservation area east trailhead for the Blue Hike, just inside the conservation area entrance on the west side of Lake Norris Road, at 930am. Jim says the Black Water creek trip is approx. 1 mile. It is very beautiful but has a few snags and logs that should be passable for everyone in kayaks if we take our time (he did it a few weekends ago on a paddleboard, and said that was a bit triky!). We can paddle for a few miles in Lake Norris then return down Black Water Creek to the parking area.

Here is the link to recreation area map, the Google map will help you find the launch site:

Jim also asked me to remind everyone, he doesn’t think there is a bathroom on site, it might be good to stop somewhere before you arrive!

Don't forget your environmentally friendly sunscreen, eye-wear, hat, water, or other outdoor essentials. Each paddler MUST wear a PFD, no exceptions.

No Inflatable Kayaks please! Rain or weather cancellations will be emailed & announced on Facebook and via email the day before.

We will meet at the launch point at 830am.

**Kayaks will be available to rent, prepayment and  Advance registration is required.

Tour is FREE for ONP members with their own kayaks, $5 for non members.

$20 for members to rent a Kayak, $25 for non members.
