Planting at the Preserve
Come out to Oakland Nature Preserve on Saturday, January 6th to help us plant wiregrass plugs in our restored sandhill habitat! By planting native seeds, we'll be restoring vital habitat for protected species like the gopher tortoise. Plantings only happen 1-2 times per year, these are special events! We are looking for 20 dedicated volunteers to aid us in our restoration efforts, so this event is first come first serve.
Visit our volunteer page on our website to register to volunteer with us and review volunteer guidelines and expectations https://www.oaklandnaturepreserve.org/volunteer .
Please wear long pants and close-toed shoes, and bring gloves, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Plan to be working for the full 4 hours, and anticipate a lot of walking, bending, lifting, and dirty (but important!) outdoor work.
Any volunteers between the ages of 11-13 are required to have a parent/guardian volunteering with them. Volunteers between the ages of 14-17 are welcome to volunteer with parent/guardian permission.
Our resident Gopher Tortoises love wiregrass!
