Trail Map
Click the Trail Map on the right to view or print a detailed map of the preserve
showing the location of our present and future walking trails. Don't forget to
bring your locks if you come by bicycle, as bikes are not allowed on the walking
trails. This is a large PDF file, and will take several minutes to download on a
slow modem connection, so be patient. If you don't have the free Adobe Acrobat
Reader for PDF files installed on your computer (most newer systems do), you can
download it from Adobe .

Trail Sign Book
Many folks have commented on the little signs found along
the trails and boardwalk that identify plants and critters in the preserve.
Most of these photos were taken and processed into the signs by Nancy Deam
using a custom MS Access program created by John Deam. Nancy has now
designed an 18 page book of all our trail signs that we have saved as an
Adobe PDF file that you can view or download and print on your color
printer. |
This is a LARGE file (9 MB) that
will take some time to download on a slow modem connection.
Click to Open or Right Click and choose Save Target As
to download the new ONP Trail Sign Book. |
Our First Trail
|
Our first
marked trail had its official opening on Sunday, Jan 27, 2002. Jim Thomas, our
biologist and plant expert lead a group on an interpreted walk at 2:00 P.M. starting
at the Trail Shelter and winding along the new uplands trail through the old
sinkhole. The trail continues along the wetlands edge to the amphitheater. From
there, it crosses the uplands area to show some of the new
plantings that are the beginnings of the restoration project, and ends back at the
Trail Shelter. Many small signs have been installed along the trail to
identify the plants and animals you may see along the way.
